Greenlink Fare Free Day and Photo Contest October 10
Greenlink is partnering with the Greenville Center for Creative Arts, the Jolley Foundation and the Piedmont Health Foundation to offer Fare Free Day on Wednesday, October 10. This special Fare Free Day is designed to coincide with GREENVILLE FACES: TRANSIT, a photography project documenting transit riders’ experiences and stories.
Professional and amateur photographers who wish to participate in the GREENVILLE FACES: TRANSIT project must register online by noon on Tuesday, October 9. Spaces are limited for photographers, who will ride Greenlink on Fare Free Day during assigned shifts and submit their five best photos from the day by Wednesday, October 17.
The photos taken on Fare Free Day will be reviewed by a jury led by Eli Warren, a local professional editorial and commercial photographer, and comprised of representatives from the Greenville Center for Creative Arts, the Jolley Foundation, the Piedmont Health Foundation and Greenlink. The jury will select first, second and third place winners to receive cash prizes and will nominate three more photos for a readers’ choice contest. The top cash prize is $1,000. The winning photos will be featured at the Greenville Center for Creative Arts during November’s First Friday event and will stay on display through the month of November.
According to Piedmont Health Foundation executive director Katy Smith, the goal of Wednesday’s Fare Free Day is to encourage new transit riders to give Greenlink a try. “We hope the GREENVILLE FACES: TRANSIT project will provide an opportunity to create a connection between those who ride transit and those who don’t,” said Smith. “Thousands of people take Greenlink every day for work, school, healthcare appointments and errands and we want to share their stories.”
