Wig-Wearing Bank Robber Nabbed in Anderson County

Preston Hancock Mugshot

(GREENVILLE, SC)- Last night at approximately 9 p.m., 23-year-old Preston Emmanuel Hancock, of 17 Fludd Street, was arrested in Anderson County for his involvement in two armed robberies in Greenville. The robberies occurred at the BB&T Bank on Hampton Avenue on Friday, November 16, and The Bank of Travelers Rest on North Pleasantburg Drive on Monday, November 19.

The suspect was apprehended in Anderson County after trying to elude Anderson County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) deputies and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) agents. SLED, along with the ACSO Fugitive Investigations Unit, received credible information that Hancock was in the Anderson area.

Acting upon this information, they located the suspect. Hancock abandoned the vehicle he was driving and fled on foot into a wooded area, where he was quickly located and apprehended by one of ACSO’s uniformed deputies and taken into custody.

Hancock is being charged with two counts of Robbery; two counts of Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime; and one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Hancock was transported back to Greenville last night and is currently being held in the Detention Center.

Both armed robberies occurred in the banks’ drive-thru. Wearing a wig and hat during the commission of these crimes, the suspect drove up to the teller window, presented a note demanding money, and displayed a gun. In each instance, Hancock left with undisclosed amount of cash.

“We could not be more appreciative of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and SLED for their professionalism and quick response in taking this dangerous individual into custody so that he is no longer able to victimize our community,” said GPD Capt. Howie Thompson.
