At approximately 8:30 this morning, the Greenville Police Department’s Communication Center (9-1-1 Dispatch) received a call regarding a deceased male located in a creek in the area of 1 Augusta Street. The caller identified himself as a friend of the deceased individual- who was in his 50s- and reported drinking alcohol with the subject in the area last night before leaving him and spending the night at a local homeless shelter. The friend said the individual was intoxicated when he left.
When the friend returned to the area this morning, he found the subject face down in the water and called police. EMS arrived on scene and pronounced the subject deceased. Identification was recovered from the man’s clothing and authorities are working to verify the information.
No foul play is suspected at this time. GPD Detectives believe the subject may have slipped or passed out while sitting on a ledge above the water.
The identity of the deceased individual will be released by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office after next of kin can be located and notified.
