City Working to Help Motorists Traveling on Woodruff Road

With the holiday season quickly approaching, and so many popular shopping destinations located on Woodruff Road, the City of Greenville is again taking preventive measures to help manage traffic. Beginning Wednesday, November 21, left turn movements will be restricted on Woodruff Industrial Lane near its intersection with Woodruff Road to improve congestion and safety at this critical intersection. This measure is proposed to remain in place throughout the holiday season.

The Greenville Police Department will be closely monitoring key signalized intersections, like the ones around Magnolia Park and The Shops at Greenridge, Black Friday weekend (Nov. 22–25) and providing directional guidance through the use of electronic message boards.

SCDOT traffic engineers have monitored traffic cameras along Woodruff Road to observe traffic patterns and determine when the roadway is most congested. The less traveled times of day on Woodruff Road are weekday mornings between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. and on Saturday mornings before 10 a.m. Not surprisingly, traffic is heaviest on weekdays from 4 to 9 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. into the evening hours.

To avoid or minimize delays, motorists are encouraged to plan their trips to Woodruff Road for those times of day when there is less congestion and to use alternate routes to Woodruff Road, such as Roper Mountain Road, Salters Road, Carolina Point Parkway, Market Point Drive Connector Road, Miller Road and Garlington Road. Additionally, drivers are specifically reminded not to block intersections.
