Suspect Arrested Following Road Rage Shooting

SIMPKINS, DAVERIN RASHOD

(GREENVILLE)- At approximately 10 p.m. last night, GPD dispatch received reports of two vehicles shooting at each other in the area of Laurens Road near Nicholtown. Officers quickly located the vehicles in the vicinity of East Stone Avenue and Wade Hampton Boulevard and conducted a felony traffic stop at the Waffle House at 11 East Stone Avenue.

No injuries were reported.

One suspect, Daverin Rashod Simpkins, 22, of 100 Crestwood Forest in Greenville, was taken into custody for his involvement in the incident. Currently, charges include Attempted Murder, Possession of a Gun During the Commission of a Violent Crime, and Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol.

Two additional occupants were in the suspect’s vehicle but have not been charged at this time.

The investigation continues.

Summary of the Incident

The victim told officers he was driving down Laurens Road when a 2008 Chevrolet Impala cut him off. He sped past the vehicle and got back over in front of it when the suspect’s vehicle accelerated and merged into the middle lane and the occupants began flashing gang signs. The victim reported that an occupant in the front passenger seat of the suspect’s vehicle pointed a black and silver handgun at him and began shooting, at which time the victim retrieved his gun and returned fire. The victim then called 911 and followed the suspect’s vehicle until officers arrived and stopped it.
