Filing Instructions and Deadlines

Candidates filing for office with the city of Greenville or Commission of Public Works are required to:

  1. Candidates for Mayor or City Council: Review Article II, Council, of Chapter 2, Administration, and Article I, In General, of Chapter 14, Election, of the City Code to confirm eligibility and election process.
  2. Candidates for Board of Commissioners of Public Works: Review Article II, Board of Commissioners of Public Works, of Chapter 44, Utilities and and Article I, In General, of Chapter 14, Election, of the City Code to confirm eligibility and election process.
  3. Review the nomination and election schedule to determine filing deadlines.
  4. Complete and deliver to the Greenville County Voter Registration and Elections Office, Greenville County Square, 301 University Ridge Suite 1900, a Statement of Intention of Candidacy, along with a non-refundable filing fee required for the office in which the Candidate is pursuing on or before the closing date for filing statements of candidacy:
Note: Filing fee for the mayor and city council member candidates consists of 1% of the annual salary of the office multiplied by the number of years in the term of office.

Interest and Disclosure Requirements

All candidates must electronically complete a Statement of Economic Interest Form and Campaign Disclosure Form as required by the State Ethics Commission and within the deadline established by state law. Please see the State Ethics Commission website for additional information.
