Stormwater Management Plan
The City of Greenville and Greenville County generally are experiencing growth and
revitalization that is impacting the City’s natural resources. This increased urbanization
is especially evident with its surface water resources. The growth and revitalization
necessitates an increased need to protect and enhance the natural water resource
features that are evident throughout the City and so significantly and critically
contributes to the City’s distinctive character. The City of Greenville recognizes
this need for a more proactive and comprehensive approach to manage stormwater runoff.
In response to this recognition, the City Council adopted the Greenville Stormwater
Management Plan by Resolution on May 29, 2007. The purpose of this Plan is to establish
the framework and goals that will direct Stormwater Management for the City of Greenville.
The Greenville Stormwater Management Plan specifies the mission and the goals of
stormwater management in the City of Greenville, and presents the framework of the
stormwater management program. The implementation phases allow for the effective
development and growth of the stormwater management program. The focus of the stormwater
management program is the development of proper watershed planning and effective
regulations. The adoption of the Greenville Stormwater Management Plan and the establishment
of the stormwater management program will allow the City to better assess funding
consideration for capital improvement projects that will correct existing flood
problems and reduce the likelihood of future problems. With the development and
implementation of the Watershed Plans, the Stormwater Ordinance, maintenance and
public information programs, the City of Greenville will have the ability to accomplish
comprehensive stormwater management.
