Perform certificate of occupancy inspections prior to building occupancies.  Take inspection requests from contractors by phone for an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon.  Enter inspection requests and results into the system.  Assist customers with building or occupancy-related issues over the counter.  Help resolve complaints as they are encountered.  Teach contractor classes when new codes are implemented by the state.  Interact with other employees, departments, contractors, architects, engineers, and citizens.  Attend classes in order to maintain credit hours required by the state licensing board and the International Code Council.  International Codes Council certifications as a commercial building inspector, residential building inspector, and building plans examiner are required.  Must have or obtain a license from the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulations as a residential and commercial building inspector.  Over two (2) years of experience as a building inspector or as a commercial and residential building contractor is required.  A two-year Associate’s degree in Architecture, Building Sciences, Construction Management or equivalent work experience is required. Clean and maintain the Public Works Supply Service Center.  Under general supervision, perform minor maintenance/repair of small engine equipment.  Maintain inventory of repair parts.  Use computer to check equipment/material in/out.  Communicate with co-workers to ensure compliance with check in/out procedures.  Perform other duties as assigned by the Supply Services Manager.  Fulfill the duties of the Supply Services Manager in his/her absence.  High school diploma or equivalent plus six months to one year of advanced study or training in small engine repair/maintenance are required.  Customer service and warehouse experience is preferred.  Experience in a construction/maintenance related field is preferred.  Valid SC Commercial Beginner’s Permit (Class B) with air brakes and tanker endorsements is required.
