Getting Around
Airports
The Greenville-Spartanburg International
Airport (GSP) is located 12 miles from downtown, and services more than 140
daily flights, including non-stop service to 18 major cities across the US.
More than 1.75 million passengers per year are served by 6 major airlines.
Two
Federal Inspection Stations (FIS) consisting of Customs, Immigrations and
Agriculture are located at GSP.
The
Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) is the busiest general aviation airport in
South Carolina and is convenient to all of Greenville's premier destinations.
The BI-LO Center, the Peace Center, and the vibrant downtown area are only
a five-minute drive away. Shopping malls, hotels, and restaurants are located
just a few blocks from GMU. The TD Convention Center and The Phoenix Inn are located right next door, within walking distance of the airport.
GMU is a modern and attractive facility with a wide variety of tenants that
offer a full range of aviation services.
Seaports
Greenville’s strategic location enables easy access to ocean shipping from two
South Carolina seaports, which include the Port of Charleston and Georgetown Port. Both ports provide container-loading facilities and are within
three to four hours of Greenville. The Port of Charleston is the busiest container
port along the Southeast and Gulf coasts and ranks fourth nationwide. The Upstate
boasts production of 60% of the goods shipped through the Port of Charleston.
Interstates and Highways
All major markets on the eastern seaboard and most of the markets east of the Mississippi
River are within two days via truck of Greenville. Greenville is accessible from
Interstate Highways 85, 185 and 385. U.S. Highways 25, 123, 29 and 276 also pass
through Greenville.
Rail
Norfolk-Southern provides freight and cargo service directly from the Port of Charleston
to Greenville, operating an intermodal ramp in downtown.
CSX Railroad also services
the port and Greenville via “spur” lines. Passenger rail system is provided by
Amtrak Crescent train, servicing the Greenville train station, with routes north to New York,
NY, and south to New Orleans, LA.
Public Transportation
The City of Greenville operates the local
Greenlink bus service Monday through Saturday.
Regional and national bus travel is provided by
Greyhound Lines. Both bus companies originate at the Greenlink Transit Center, located in downtown Greenville between West Washington Street and West McBee Avenue.
