Employee Recognition, Service Awards and Longevity Bonuses

Recognition and Awards
To further recognize those employees who set
examples of performance worthy of emulation by other employees, the City has
established the Employee Recognition & Awards (ER&A) Program. The awards are
presented to recipients at the City’s Departmental Awards Celebrations and
Annual ER&A Banquet.

The City has established eight award categories:
- City Manager’s Award for Employee Excellence
The City Manager’s Award for Employee Excellence is awarded to the employee
whose job performance, achievements, work ethic, and attitudes have consistently
portrayed the core beliefs and values of the City of Greenville and have
advanced the City’s mission.

- Innovation Award
This award acknowledges the creative and innovative contributions of the
nominee. This is an individual who thinks outside the box and whose ideas have
significantly improved the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of City
services.
- Customer Service Award
The customer service award acknowledges the employee who makes a significant
contribution to the City by providing stellar service to his or her internal or
external customers.
- Above and Beyond Award
This award recognizes the employee who has exerted unequaled personal effort to
add value to an outcome that was well above and beyond the normal expectations
of his/her normal job.
- Team Achievement Award
This award recognizes exceptional results achieved by a team of employees whose
job performance and accomplishments reflect synergy of team process and where
the team accomplishment has a significant positive impact for the City or its
customers.
- Health Improvement Award<
The Health Improvement Award recognizes the employee who has demonstrated the
greatest sustained improvement in personal health, or, has facilitated the
greatest health improvements in other employees.
- City Ambassador Award
The City Ambassador Award recognizes the employee who by personal example most
consistently illustrates all that is good about the City of Greenville. This
includes a welcoming spirit and warm hospitality to visitors and guests,
spontaneous helpfulness to all in need, and an endearing enthusiasm in promoting
the City’s assets.
- On-The-Spot Awards
This award is unlimited in number and is intended to give managers a
discretionary tool to promptly recognize exemplary performance, service, or
accomplishments by an individual employee, or team of employees. It may also
include recognition to employees who identify different ways of doing things
that save time or money or provide better service to the citizens of Greenville.
Employee Service
Awards
The service awards program recognizes and commends the long-term commitment that
loyal employees have made to the City, recognizing that much of the City’s
organizational history resides with these employees. Annually, employees who
reach incremental service milestones of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, and
50 years of continuous service to the City of Greenville, shall be recognized
with a service awards and paid a lump sum longevity bonus.
Longevity Bonus
All regular, full-time and permanent part-time employees of the City of
Greenville are eligible for longevity bonuses which are one-time lump-sum
payments, added to one’s paycheck at each consecutive fifth year anniversary.
