Artist: Zan Wells

A former statesman and resident, Joel Poinsett helped shape the history of the city of Greenville. The bronze sculpture is mounted in the Court Street area at the site of a historic speech made by Poinsett on July 4, 1851. The location is also near one of his namesakes, the Westin Poinsett Hotel. An amateur botanist, Poinsett brought the first poinsettia to the United States on one of his travels from Mexico.
