Students from Carolina High School recently participated in a field trip exploring local brownfields sponsored by the City's Community Development Division. The students learned what brownfields are and the safety, economic, social and environmental impacts brownfields have on the community. Representatives from the City's Parks & Grounds and Engineering Divisions spoke to the students about the revitalization of some of the brownfields located in the city and their impacts on the environment and economy. Additionally, Rosa Byrd from the West Greenville Neighborhood Association discussed the history of Mayberry Park and the past social impact it had on the city.
The students will continue learning about brownfields throughout the month of October and will complete their studies with a field trip and study of Lake Conestee Nature Park.
