Grill Safety

The fire code prohibits the use and storage of most open-flame cooking devices such as charcoal and gas grills on apartment/condo patios, decks and balconies or within 10 feet of the building. The only exceptions are electric cooking devices and those fueled by no more than a 1-pound propane tank (the small, green camp-style bottle). This regulation does not apply to single-family homes, duplexes and multifamily buildings with patios, decks and balconies that are protected by an automatic sprinkler system.
